Reading Corner

I wanted to make this page specifically for book reviews. Specifically, reading books for the kids.

It can be so difficult to pick "the right books". You know, the ones your kids will happily read on their own. Those books that entertain and engage the reader. I have compiled a listing below of parent recommended books for the kids.  I have loosely labelled the books under each grade based on reading level and interest level and sorted aphabetically.
I am also including a link with library recommended books here and here.

Ontario vs. Quebec grade levels

In looking for French resources for older grades you might come across books labelled as  1re secondaire,  2e secondaire,  3e secondaire,  4e secondaire and 5e secondaire. This can be a little confusing if you are not used to how Quebec labels their grades so I put a conversion chart below. Teaching Resources - For English Parents

Are you looking for a community to join for  French for Homeschooling? Check out this Facebook Group. They have a great community for  Resources, Activities and Connections. Are your children going into JK/SK (Jardin/Marternelle)? A great way to teach French at this age is by reading and singing songs. I know, it sounds too easy but really. Trust me. 20 minutes of reading a day + teaching them  songs goes a long way at this age particular age.  Here is a pinterest board with tons of songs and rhymes for children and here is a French singing group for children . Wondering what books are age appropriate?  Robert Munsch . My daughter LOVES the animations, these books are easy to read if you are not super fluent in French and the stories are cute. Here is a link to digital stories that offers English translations. Are your children in the primary/ secondary years? Here are some key links to online stores that carry curriculum resources and workbooks in French and for French as a second la

French Resource Blog: Day 2 - Lets talk about our options for French learning.

In Ontario, there are 4 options for learning French in government funded schools. We have  Core French, Extended French, French Immersion and Full French. The first 3 of these options is considered French as a Second Language and each of these options provides a different number of hours committed to French learning. If you are homeschooling, teaching French is more flexible. You get to decide how much French to teach and when to teach it. So, how do we, as parents, decide which option is best for us? Well.. if you are like me, we decide after dedicating about a billion hours into researching the topic. If you don't have that kind of time on your hands right now (lets be honest, none of us do) I have noted below the different options and some information about each of them. You can take a look at my Government tab for additional resources. "Core French is mandatory from Grades 4 to 8 for all students in English-language elementary schools. Students entering Grade 4 must receiv
